Introduction. India is currently facing one of the biggest threats it has ever faced, which could not only result in natural disasters and untold misery for its citizens in the years to come, but also compromise our future economic growth. This threat is global warming.

The series of floods and droughts suffered by the country over the last year have proved that these disasters take an enormous toll not just on life, but also the country’s resources. Capacities to deal with such disasters are limited. According to studies conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, and by scientists around the world, these incidents will only increase in frequency in the future as a direct result of global warming.
